Why I design in the browser first

Why I design in the browser first

Static mockups hide the parts of a site that people actually feel: timing, scroll and the space between things.

For years I handed over pixel perfect mockups and watched them lose something on the way to the browser. Not the colors or the type, those survived. What got lost was the feel: how fast a panel opens, where the eye lands after a scroll, how much air a headline needs on a phone.

Motion is part of the layout

Once I started designing directly in Framer, the conversation with clients changed. We stopped debating screenshots and started reacting to something that moves. Decisions got faster and the result felt more like the brand, not like a picture of it.

I still sketch on paper and in Figma. But the moment a direction is clear, it goes into the browser, because that is where people will meet it.
